Le Domaine de Rochebonne is located in a village called St Just-Luzac in the Charente Maritime region of south-west France, also known as Nouvelle Aquitaine

The area has many historical sites to visit as well as colourful fishing ports, and a stunning coastline including La Cote Sauvage and La Grande Côte. The coast is lined with dunes and pine forests and several islands that you can visit. The domaine de Rochebonne is also in easy access of lively seaside resorts and big shopping centres.

Within a few minutes drive you can visit the island of Oleron, the fort of St Jean d’angle, the fortified village of Brouage, La Tour de Broue, the château de La Gataudière and its adventure park, La ferme de magnee with its farm animals, Marennes beach, the famous Canal de la cayenne for wine and oysters and the Fort Louvois

Within 10 minutes walk from your holiday accommodation you can find a restaurant, a bar, a boulangerie, a small grocery shop and post office all located on the village square in St Just- Luzac.


8 kms from your holiday accommodation there is the impressive bridge over to the island of Oleron where there are a number of interesting towns such as the fortified town le Chateau d’Oleron, St Trojan les Bains, the port of La Cotiniere and amazing beaches.

15 to 20 kms away you can get to the seaside town of Royan with its beachfront promenades and a large selection of shops, bars and restaurants. Rochefort has plenty of historical monuments such as La Corderie royale, la place Colbert and the fully operational replica of the 1779 frigate L'hermione. In La Palmyre there is one of the biggest and best zoos in Europe with over 1800 species. There is also a number of amusement parks including Luna Park and go karting tracks

30 to 40kms away there is the town of La Rochelle which is loaded with history and charm and has numerous pedestrian streets with many shops, bars and restaurants, ancient fortifications and museums. In the opposite direction there is the historical town of Saintes with its romain ampitheathre, paleolithic site, Roman aqueduct, L'abbaye aux dames, St Pierre’s Cathedral and many bars, shops, and restaurants within its pedestrian streets.

To explore the region we do recommend having a car as the public transport in the immediate area are not very frequent. There is public transport by bus from St Just-Luzac which can take you to nearby towns including Rochefort, Royan, Saintes, Marennes and La Rochelle. In Rochefort, Royan, Saintes and La Rochelle there are mainline train stations where you can catch the local trains and the TGV. The closest international airports are La Rochelle which is 45 Minutes away and Bordeaux which is 1 hour away. The closest motorway exit is in Saintes which is 35 minutes away

Fort Louvois: This historic fortification, located on an island just off the coast of Bourcefranc-le-Chapus (11 km from Saint Just-Luzac), is accessible via a causeway at low tide. Explore the fort and enjoy the views of the surrounding ocean.

Mornac-sur-Seudre: This charming village, just 16 km from Saint Just-Luzac, is known for its picturesque harbor, narrow streets lined with artisan shops, and traditional wooden boats called "pinasses."

Phare de la Coubre: This lighthouse, located on the edge of the Coubre forest (just 8 km from Saint Just-Luzac), offers stunning views of the coastline and is a popular spot for hiking and birdwatching.

Château de La Roche Courbon: This beautiful Renaissance castle, located just 22 km from Saint Just-Luzac, features elegant gardens, a moat, and a maze. Guided tours are available.

Plage de la Grande Conche: This popular beach in Royan (just 10 km from Saint Just-Luzac) is known for its fine sand, gentle waves, and views of the nearby cliffs. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby.

Les Antilles de Jonzac: This indoor water park, located just 28 km from Saint Just-Luzac, features a tropical lagoon, water slides, and a wellness area. Perfect for a rainy day or a fun family outing.

Abbaye aux Dames: This ancient abbey in Saintes (just 25 km from Saint Just-Luzac) was founded in the 11th century and features a stunning Romanesque church and beautiful gardens. Guided tours are available.

Les Grottes de Régulus: These fascinating underground caves, located in Meschers-sur-Gironde (just 23 km from Saint Just-Luzac), feature stunning stalactites and stalagmites. Guided tours are available.

Les Jardins du Monde: Located in Royan (just 10 km from Saint Just-Luzac), this beautiful botanical garden features plants from around the world, including Japan, Australia, and South America.

La Palmyre Zoo: This large zoo, located in La Palmyre (just 25 km from Saint Just-Luzac), is home to over 1,600 animals from around the world, including tigers, lions, giraffes, and monkeys.
